Troy Deeney told talkSPORT that he thinks ‘Everton is the place’ for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to ‘grow’ and dismissed the idea of him playing for either Manchester City or Tottenham.

The Watford hitman thinks ‘unless’ Tottenham sell Harry Kane then they are perfectly fine in the number nine department, whilst he doesn’t think Everton’s leaping forward has the technical ability to play for Pep Guardiola.

Unless Manchester City, who are the best team in Europe right now, come knocking, there’s no way Everton will be looking to sell one of their star players.

And with Deeney returning to the Premier League with Watford next season, he is expecting to be locking horns with the ‘massively underrated’ Calvert Lewin with his opposite number wearing the colours of blue of Merseyside.

“No, I don’t think he leaves,” said Deeney. “I think you look at the other big boys. Where does he go and add to them?

“I think Everton is the place for him to grow, at this moment in time. I think they (Man City) go bigger (than Calvert Lewin). I don’t think he’s technically up there for what Pep would want to do.

“He’s been really impressive. Massively underrated in the air. But Man City, I don’t really see that.

“Spurs are alright for strikers unless Kane goes, so it would take somebody else to move on for him to move, for me.”

Whilst Calvert Lewin won’t be sharing the same pitch as Kane on the domestic scene, he will be hoping to do just that on the international stage.

The Everton forward is growing as an England player and with UEFA allowing three more players to the Euro party this summer, it only increases Calvert Lewin’s chances of going.

It would be a surprise if he is left out because many would have argued that he would have even made the 23, nevermind, the now-increased 26.
