Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie should have been sent off for his challenge on Chelsea star Raheem Sterling in the London derby.

That is according to Gary Neville, who was on co-commentary duty for the London derby on Sky Sports Premier League.

The former Manchester United defender believes that Destiny Udogie should have been given a straight red card for his challenge on Chelsea and England international attacker Raheem Sterling in the first half of the Premier League game on Monday evening.

During the first half of the London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Udogie dived in with both feet and his studs up on Sterling.

The former Manchester City star pulled out of the challenge just in time.

Sterling could have been seriously hurt.

Udogie escaped with a yellow card.

Neville said about Udogie in the 19th minute: “He is a lucky boy, him, because that is a challenge that is universally hated.

“He would have snapped his leg if he hadn’t pulled it away.”

My View: Destiny Udogie should have sent off

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie should have been sent off for his challenge on Chelsea ace Raheem Sterling.

I do not think that Udogie meant to hurt Sterling.

Not at all.

However, the 20-year-old left-back did go into the challenge with his studs up.

I believe that had the youngster made contact with Sterling, then the Chelsea star could have been seriously hurt.

In my view, the officials should have sent off Udogie.

One Spurs player who did get sent off in the first half was Cristian Romero.

The Argentina international central defender was given his marching orders for a bad challenge on Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
