A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…

It has been a good few days since Ron Vlaar was last linked with Manchester United but fear not, the Aston Villa defender has again been tipped for a potential move to Old Trafford.

The Mirror claims that United boss Louis van Gaal sees his countryman as the solution to their defensive problems and following the injury to Marcos Rojo, and the ongoing disciplinary issues with Chris Smalling the latest defender to see red, Vlaar is reportedly considered the perfect addition this January.

In other news, United striker Robin van Persie has been speaking about a recent meeting he had with Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink.

The Dutch side are currently third in their Euro 216 qualifying group having picked up just three points from their opening three matches. As a result they are six points behind both Czech Republic and Iceland, but in an interview with AD van Persie revealed recent discussions focusing on how things can change.

“It was a good, frank and honest conversation,” the United player said. “With an open mind we both gave our view on the situation.

“It was critical, but it should be.”

Hiddink took over from van Gaal following the World Cup after the new United boss had led them to the semi-finals, but there is a long way to go if the Netherlands are to qualify for the next major competition in around 18 months.
