A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United…
The Telegraph reports that Manchester United are confident of signing Southampton left-back Luke Shaw before this summer’s World Cup.
They claim a fee of £30million will be enough to bring the England international to Old Trafford as a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.
The report claims Shaw is concerned over competition for places at Chelsea, who have also been heavily linked with the teenager. But with Evra approaching the end of his current United contract, there is the possibility Shaw could walk straight into David Moyes’ starting line-up next season.
In other news, the Daily Mail reports that Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Ashley Young have been forced to do an extra day’s training after being photographed on a late night out the day after their Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich.
And finally, the Express published quotes from United loanee Jesse Lingard on his thoughts regarding next season.
Currently at Brighton, the attacking midfielder said, “I’ll go back to Old Trafford with sky-high confidence.
“Players out on loan have got to keep playing our own game and see where it takes us.”
With Lingard, one senses it could ultimately take him all the way to the top of the game.
