Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing Ousmane Dembele’s future and some tentative links to Liverpool.

The Frenchman’s Barcelona contract is up at the end of the month, and, as you can imagine, he’s been the subject of many a rumour this summer.

Liverpool are amongst the clubs that have been linked, but according to Jacobs, these stories have all been driven by the player’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, as he tries to leverage a better deal from Barcelona.

In fact, according to Jacobs, Liverpool have actually warned Sissoko about spreading fake transfer rumours about the club.

What’s been said?

Jacobs shared what he knows about Sissoko and Liverpool.

“It’s all coming from Sissoko to try to leverage, shock horror, right at the point when Dembele is in deep talks with Barcelona to get more. Liverpool laughed off the links and they actually said that they warned Sissoko to not spread false rumours about their interest. They were not interested in Dembele and they made that very clear that they were unhappy with form of links being put out there,” Jacobs said.

Frustrating

It must be frustrating for a club to see these stories circulating every single day when there is no truth to them.

These stories can easily unsettle current players – imagine how Mo Salah feels seeing Liverpool linked to Dembele every other day? While these reports can also affect ongoing transfer negotiations.

Indeed, if you’re a winger being courted by Liverpool, would you really want to join if you believe Dembele was also on his way to potentially start in front of you?

Liverpool have been stern with Sissoko, and hopefully, that will be the end of any Dembele speculation.
