Les Ferdinand has claimed that Manchester United’s demands for Newcastle target, Jesse Lingard is just ‘business’, as he told talkSPORT.
Newcastle want to sign Lingard from Man United before Monday’s cut-off point, but there appears to be a stumbling block in him heading to St James’ Park.
The Old Trafford-based club are asking for a sizeable loan fee, which those in the North East deem ‘unacceptable’, as reported by The Athletic.
Some may question, are Man United simply taking advantage of Newcastle now having heavy pockets?
Or is this just a case of how the brutal world of business works and Man United are doing what is best for them?
Well, former Premier League striker, Ferdinand, who is in the QPR boardroom, thinks it’s strictly business and ‘unfortunately’ for his former side, the prices in today’s market have now been ‘inflated’.
“I am going to say it’s business,” said Ferdinand. “It’s just the way the Premier League is. It’s just the way it works.
“If Jesse Lingard goes there and keeps Newcastle in the division, then what is it worth to Newcastle in what they are trying to do and where they are trying to go.
“I understand it’s business and sometimes people have a commodity that you are trying to get and if you want that commodity then you have to pay for it.
“Unfortunately, sometimes the prices have been inflated. But that’s the way the Premier League is, at the moment.”

It seems as though Lingard is eager to move in order to enhance his chances of making the squad for the 2022 World Cup.
But if the attack-minded midfielder doesn’t join the Magpies, then where does he go?
For obvious reasons, West Ham would love him back, but given that Man United are battling David Moyes’s side for a Champions League spot, then that’s a move that won’t happen this time around.
In truth, come deadline day, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Lingard is heading to Newcastle for a medical at 7:55 pm and everyone is rushing to get the deal over the line.
