Julien Laurens has spoken about the future of Tottenham Hotspur transfer target and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy ahead of his rumoured move to Saudi Arabia.
The European football expert stated how Edouard Mendy ‘hasn’t played for almost a year’, but Chelsea are still getting big-money for their 31-year-old goalkeeper, which is ‘completely unexpected’, as he told ESPN.
Chelsea probably have Saudi to thank because, after spending hundreds and hundreds of millions during the past two transfer windows, they are being helped out by those from the Middle East, in regards to balancing their books, as reported by Sky Sports.

If it wasn’t for the Saudi Pro League, then the likes of Mendy would probably be stuck at Stamford Bridge, or making a possible rumoured move to Spurs.
Tottenham are looking for a new goalkeeper because Hugo Lloris will be heading for the exit door and many shot-stoppers have been linked, including Chelsea’s struggling back-up keeper.
Nonetheless, despite interest from other Premier League teams, Laurens spoke about Mendy, who moved to the Premier League for £22 million back in 2020 (Sky Sports), heading to Saudi.
“Even Mendy, I don’t know what kind of market value we should get for Edouard Mendy, who you know I am biased here, I love the guy,” said Laurens.
“But he hasn’t played for almost a year now, in and out, but not much. To get that kind of money from Saudi for him, it’s completely unexpected. It’s amazing for Chelsea.”

Who will be Tottenham’s new goalkeeper?
Well, Spurs can write off Mendy because he will now be collecting a big cheque, whilst there is strong talk about David Raya of Brentford.
The issues seems to stem from the transfer fee Brentford want for their number-one keeper, who has 12 months left to run on his contract.
If they can get him over the line, then it would be a very good purchase because, for a number of seasons now, they have needed a number one.
