The German coach leads the former Barnsley midfielder Grant McCann in the betting.
Daniel Stendel has emerged as the surprise new favourite to be Barnsley’s next manager with Sky Bet.
The out of work German first appeared on the bookmaker’s list of contenders last week, but has now overtaken Grant McCann, the former Barnsley midfielder, as the market leader.
At 10/11, Stendel is odds-on to replace Jose Morais at Oakwell, with McCann close behind at 13/8.
The 44-year-old spent the best part of a year in charge of Hannover 96 – the only club he has ever managed – but was sacked in March 2017, despite leading the club at which he spent seven years as a player to fourth in the second tier standings.

Should Stendel take the reins at Barnsley, he would find the Yorkshire club in a similar predicament to the one in which he found Hannover, after they slipped out of the Championship last season.
