Hal Robson-Kanu has told Sky Sports Football (05/09/21 at 1:40 pm) that Leeds United winger Daniel James is ‘undoubtedly the best’ Wales have in one-v-one situations.
The former forward, therefore, suggested that the Leeds now boy is better than four-time Champions League winner Gareth Bale in that department.
There’s no doubt that James is an important figure for his country, but many agree that Bale and Aaron Ramsey are the most important.
Despite that, Robson-Kanu was full of praise for James and the quality in his tank.
“He has got all of the attributes to impact the games consistently,” said Robson-Kanu. “And he has done that at Manchester United.
“But he probably hasn’t been on the pitch as much as he would have liked to.
“You can see, in one-v-one position, he’s undoubtedly the best Wales have, at this moment in time. He’s electric.
“The job of the team is for him to ultimately affect the game. That’s why moving to Leeds is a great opportunity for him to kick on again.”
Both James and Bale worked their magic on Sunday, after they helped Rob Page’s side record a 3-2 win over Belarus during their World Cup qualifier.
Wales were 2-1 down at the break, but in stoppage-time, James was feeding the Real Madrid superstar for his hat-trick and a crucial last-minute winner.
Ahead of the World Cup in Qatar next November, the minutes the above two players are able to earn is going to be crucial in their country, first of all reaching that tournament, and then thriving in it.
Even though Bale is out of-contract at Madrid next summer, he seems to be part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plan, for now.
Whilst it wouldn’t be a surprise to see James’ game improve to heights he has never reached as he works under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road now.
