Darren Bent has claimed that he has been left ‘underwhelmed’ by Newcastle’s transfer business in January, as he told Sky Sports (29/01/22 at 2:10 pm).
The Sky pundit thought cash-rich Newcastle would ‘throw money’ at attacking duo, Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard this month.
But both players are still at their respective clubs, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United ahead of Monday’s deadline.
There is no doubt that both players will be mentioned quite a lot on deadline day itself, as it’s still up in the air as to whether they will leave.
Prior to Bruno Guimaraes’s announcement, Bent was told about his imminent signing, along with the possible capture of Dan Burn.
And added with Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, the former striker shared that he expected more from the Magpies given the money they had at their disposal.
“I am a bit underwhelmed,” said Bent. “I thought a little bit more will be coming in at Newcastle.
“All the talk was superstar players, so we knew that was never going to be the case.
“But when you talk about the unlimited budget Newcastle have got, I thought they would be throwing the money here, there and everywhere and getting in as many players as they can.
“The likes of Jesse Lingard, who needs to go out and play football. Dele Alli is another one. I thought they would be throwing money (at them). These are good Premier League players.”

There’s not long left until the transfer window slams shut and a big 24 hours await Newcastle.
The decision the club do or don’t make could have huge bearings on their future in England’s top-flight.
Eddie Howe’s side are sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone and, at this moment in time, they are heading to the Championship.
They may well be the richest club in the Premier League, but they don’t want to be the richest club in England’s second-tier.
