Speaking on his podcast, Gary Neville has reserved some special praise for Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian may not be one of Liverpool’s most important players these days, but he’s still a key contributor off of the bench, and while the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane grab most of the headlines these days, Neville wanted to give Firmino the credit he deserves.

What’s been said?

Neville touched on Firmino’s contributions at Liverpool.

“Firmino, for me, he’s been one of my favourites over the past few years, I know he’s the one that’s understated and he’s underrated at times, but for me, he’s contributed unbelievable amounts to this club because of how he’s dovetailed. I think of players we appreciated at United that didn’t get the headlines, but were so important, and Firmino has done that role,” Neville said.

Underrated

Years after joining Liverpool and helping them to a Champions League and Premier League triumph, somehow, Roberto Firmino remains underrated.

Unfortunately, the arrivals of Diaz and Jota haven’t helped Firmino’s quest to be recognised as a truly elite attacker as he’s slipped further down the pecking order at Anfield.

However, his current situation shouldn’t take away from the legacy he’s worked so hard to carve out on Merseyside, and while he may remain underrated in his own time, in years to come, we’re sure he’ll rightfully be recognised as a key component of one of the best club sides in European football history.
