Son Heung-min has stated that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s cross for his second goal during Tottenham Hotspur’s crucial 3-2 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday was ‘underrated’.

The South Korean star praised his Spurs teammate for how quickly he spotted him in the box, how he picked him out brilliantly and then allowed the player himself to volley home in a stunning fashion with his so-called weaker left foot.

In a topsy-turvy and all-action affair in north London, Antonio Conte’s side took a positive step towards qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Despite going 1-0 down after only 14 minutes, Spurs hit the Europa League champions back pretty quickly, with Son equalising and Harry Kane putting his team ahead from the penalty spot before the clock could hit the half-hour mark.

That’s when Son worked his magic because, just before half-time, he turned the game on his head with a brilliant volley from inside the six-yard box.

Whilst many were talking about the quality of the goal from Son himself and his superb technique to execute that volley, he was sure to big up the cross that was put in for him instead, as he told the club’s official Twitter account.

“It was a really, really good night,” said Son. “But it was important we get them three points and the performance was good. The atmosphere was unbelievable.

“I think we have underrated the cross from Pierre. He was short of time and he saw me before he crossed the ball. I think it was a really good ball. Luckily I hit the ball well with my left foot and I was very happy to score my second goal.”

WORK TO BE DONE…

Those were crucial points for Conte’s side, but a lot of work is still to be done if they are to secure a passage to the knockout stages.

Spurs sit top of Group D after four games, but only three points separate themselves and bottom-of-the-table Frankfurt.

Sporting Lisbon and Marseille are the remaining fixtures for Conte’s side, perhaps one more win would do it, even just picking up a point in each game, although, that would be pretty dangerous.

Nonetheless, given Spurs’ firepower, they should see this one through now.
