Tottenham Hotspur right-back Matt Doherty has raved about Olivier Giroud on the club’s official website and has shared his admiration of the striker who starred for London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

Doherty has said that Giroud, who did well at Arsenal and Chelsea and is now at AC Milan, is an underrated striker.

The Tottenham right-back is amazed that the 36-year-old is about to become France’s all-time leading goalscorer, overtaking Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Giroud was on the books of Arsenal from the summer of 2012 until January 2018 when he moved to London and Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The Blues paid the Gunners £18 million in transfer fees for the striker (BBC Sport), who won the Ligue 1 title with Montpellier in 2011-12.

During his time at Arsenal, Giroud scored 105 goals in 253 games, and won the FA Cup thrice.

The veteran striker won the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the FA Cup once each with Chelsea.

Giroud helped Milan to the Serie A title last season and also won the 2018 World Cup with France.

The striker has scored 51 goals for France, and if he finds the back of the net against Denmark at the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Saturday, then he will become the top scorer of all time for his country.

Doherty said about Giroud: “Olivier Giroud. He’s on the cusp of becoming France’s all-time top goalscorer (level with Thierry Henry on 51) what an achievement that would be… let’s see how he gets on tonight. For me, an underrated striker.”
