Stewart Robson has admitted Ivan Perisic’s move to Tottenham is his ‘favourite transfer’ of the 2022 summer window, as he told ESPN.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder claimed that Perisic has been an ‘underrated’ player during the past few seasons at Inter Milan and he thinks he will do ‘very well’ for Antonio Conte.

Well, Conte knows the player inside out having worked with him at the San Siro, but this will be one of the toughest tests of the 33-year-old’s career.

Perisic will be expected to play a left-sided wing-back role next season, perhaps not regularly, with the Croatian star also tasked with helping Ryan Sessegnon to grow in that role.

Nonetheless, this is what Robson had to say about Perisic’s free-transfer to north London and what the Tottenham fans can look forward to.

“Oooh, favourite transfer of this window? I would tell you who I like,” said Robson. “It’s a free-transfer, Perisic going to Spurs.

“As a wing-back, I think he would do brilliantly for them. He was much underrated when he was at Inter, the last couple of seasons and the job he did as a left wing-back.

“That’s exactly where he is going to play for Antonio Conte. I think he will get crosses into the box. And he will also score at the far post.

“So, I think one that that will do very well, Ivan Perisic for Spurs.”

PERISIC VALUABLE ON AND OFF THE PITCH

There will be a fair few Tottenham players who haven’t either played Champions League football or they need to get back into the groove of playing in the best club competition in the world.

But not Perisic, whose experience and know-how, both on and off the field, is going to be vital for the team, as they look to better last season’s tally.

Given the situation Spurs were in when Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout, they overachieved in securing Champions League football.

But Daniel Levy has backed the man in his dugout and maintaining Champions League football for the following campaign will be the first aim, as well as trying to add a sought-after trophy to the club’s cabinet.
