Darren Bent says former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is ‘underrated’ and technically he is ‘better than people think’, as he told Drive on talkSPORT (13/03/23).

The 34-year-old is currently at Brighton and he penned a new contract on Monday, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side doing wonders in the Premier League and on course for a possible European finish.

In 2020, after winning the Premier League title and the Champions League at Anfield, Lallana departed Liverpool and joined the Seagulls, who were then under the guidance of Graham Potter.

Consistent injuries caused havoc on Lallana’s playing time on Merseyside, but that didn’t stop him from being a popular member of the group.

From his early days at Southampton to the absolute highs under Jurgen Klopp, it has been some career for the Englishman.

That was touched upon by former Premier League striker Darren Bent, who thinks Lallana has had a ‘very good career’ and how he could do a Cruyff ‘with both legs’.

“I first came across Lallana at Southampton, he was very good,” said Bent. “He was technically very good. Gifted. He could Cruyff with both legs.

“He has had a very good career, Lallana. Played for England a lot of the time as well. I wouldn’t say he is undervalued, but he is underrated. He is better technically than people think.”

BRIGHTON TO FINISH ABOVE LIVERPOOL?

Whilst Liverpool have had issues all over the shop this season, those on the South Coast are loving life and producing one of their best-ever seasons.

Brighton are sitting seventh in the Premier League table. They are three points behind sixth-placed Liverpool, but De Zerbi’s side have two games in hand.

There is every chance that Lallana will finish above his former side this term, which would be an outstanding achievement for Brighton because they deserve that European tour next season.
