Trevor Sinclair has told talkSPORT (19/09/20 at 11:15 am) that he has been impressed with Liverpool’s decision to sign Jota from Wolves.
The former Manchester City winger thinks the signing has gone ‘under the radar’ as he described the versatile attacker as an ‘outstanding’ talent.
Whilst Liverpool weren’t making many moves early on during the transfer window, they are now being heard with the captures of Thiago from Bayern Munich and Jota.
Sinclair made it clear that Liverpool have ‘needed’ a signing like Jota for squad depth and he thinks Jurgen Klopp has made the right call to bring him in.
“Impressive signing,” Sinclair told talkSPORT. “I think it’s gone under the radar. Jurgen and Liverpool have done a lot of the business quite late in the day.
“I feel they needed it. They looked a little bit jaded towards the back end of last season after the celebrations from winning the Premier League.
“They didn’t get the right result in the Community Shield against Arsenal. I think new blood, new players to just put a spring in the step of the players there already. But I think it was needed. That’s great business because, for me, Jota has been one of the most outstanding players for Wolves last season.”
Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp
- Champions League
2018/19
- UEFA Super Cup
2019
- FIFA Club World Cup
2019
- Premier League
2019/20
Jota operated mainly on the left-hand side for Wolves, as he can also go down the middle and showcase his talents that way if needed.
Not only will his versatility be key to Klopp, but Jota also got a taste of Europe last season and his Europa League experience with Wolves would have no doubt toughened him as a player.
He won’t play much early on because he has a certain Sadio Mane in his way, but it will be interesting to see how Klopp uses him when their fixture list piles up with Premier League, League Cup and European Cup matches.
