Leeds United attacker Jack Harrison was lucky to keep his place for the club’s last game against Blackburn.
Harrison was substituted at half-time against Aston Villa after a woeful performance which saw him touch the ball only 14 times.
Against Blackburn he lasted 60 minutes, and had a much more telling impact.
Harrison showed more purpose in possession, and forced Leeds’ first goal with a dangerous pass which was converted for an own goal by Derrick Anderson.
When he was substituted off it was to a round of applause from supporters, with Jack Clarke coming on for the final half an hour.
Clarke was outstanding against Villa, but he is five years younger than 22-year-old Harrison and manager Marcelo Bielsa is trying to use him sparingly.
Bielsa then needs Harrison to step up and contribute, to make it easier to use Clarke as an impact substitute, rather than rush him into a starting role.
The Manchester City youngster proved a point at Leeds yesterday, showing that he can play an important role in their promotion chasing season.
He needs to build on it this weekend against Hull if he is selected as a starter again.
