Emmanuel Petit has stated that he is a ‘big fan’ of former Tottenham and now-Everton midfielder, Dele Alli, as he told Stadium Astro.
But the Highbury legend expressed that he is ‘very disappointed’ in the decline in Alli’s career and the lack of motivation in his game.
During the January transfer window, Alli, departed Spurs after seven years at the club and headed towards a relegation dogfight on Merseyside.
It has been several months since the 25-year-old has been at Goodison Park, yet he still hasn’t started a game, with suggestions from TeamTalk that Everton could move him on already in the summer.
Arsenal legend Petit shared that Alli showcased ‘so many talents, qualities and skills’ during the early part of his career, but the four managers he has had at Spurs ‘all have had the same troubles’ with the player.
“I am a big fan, especially of Dele Alli,” said Petit. “But I am very disappointed, in terms of motivation.
“He was under four different managers (at Tottenham). Pochettino, Nuno from Wolves, Jose Mourinho and now Conte. And all of them have the same troubles with Dele Alli.
“As I said for Aubameyang, Dele Alli is 25-years-old. He has shown so many talents, qualities and skills on the pitch. In the beginning, he was fresh without any troubles in his mind. He was playing like a free bird on the pitch.”
At one stage of Alli’s career, he was scoring goals from midfield like he was David Platt or Frank Lampard in their prime.
It just wasn’t the volume of goals he was scoring, but the quality and magnitude of games he would produce the goods in.
Spurs were flying high under Mauricio Pochettino and so was their thriving attack-minded midfielder.
But, the former MK Dons academy product has hit a brick wall like no other and his career is seriously heading towards a place where he will find it very hard to recover from if he doesn’t change his direction very soon.
