Liverpool got off to a terrible start in their pre-season friendly against RB Salzburg on Tuesday. The Reds were 2-0 down after just 13 minutes but a brace from young substitute Rhian Brewster in the second half levelled the score.
The result means nothing but the goals will certainly boost the youngster’s confidence ahead of the new season. Brewster’s brace yesterday took his tally to three goals in Liverpool’s pre-season so far.
His second strike against Salzburg showed incredible technique. Brewster had an open goal to aim at after a mistake by the goalkeeper which seemed easy enough, but the way he placed the volley into the corner was simply brilliant.
Georginio Wijnaldum was asked about the 20-year-old’s finishing after the game to which the Dutchman claimed that he wasn’t impressed because he already knew what Brewster is capable of.
He told Liverpool’s official website: “I’m not ‘impressed’, because I know already which kind of quality he has. We trained together for a few years and he showed also in training that his finishing is unbelievable, so I’m not really impressed!”
Brewster spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Swansea where he was brilliant. The youngster scored 11 goals in 22 games for the Swans, putting him on the radar of a number of Premier League sides.

Should Liverpool send Brewster out on loan again?
Newcastle United, Burnley, Aston Villa, Brighton, Fulham and Crystal Palace have all enquired about the possibility of signing him on loan this summer, while the three relegated sides from last season are also said to be keen. (Goal)
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard also wants him on loan at Rangers (the Scottish Sun) but it might just make the most sense for Jurgen Klopp to hold on to him for the upcoming season.
The Reds will play a lot of games in a short space of time. Brewster will definitely get opportunities to play, which might be the best thing for him as well as for Liverpool next season.
