Some Liverpool fans on social media have been reacting after Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Joel Matip suffered ankle ligament damage vs Tottenham.

The German gaffer has had rotten luck with injuries to his centre-backs this season, and now it seems as though Matip will be sidelined for a number of weeks.

This will leave Liverpool with no fit senior centre-backs, and with Fabinho missing from Thursday’s game, even their backup options aren’t looking good.

The Cameroon international came off at half-time against Tottenham, and it seems as though he’s picked up quite a serious problem.

Now, we don’t have a timescale on quite how long Matip will be out for, but ankle ligament injuries usually aren’t ones that you can just run off.

We can only hope that Matip recovers quickly, but Liverpool fans on social media certainly aren’t feeling optimistic about that.

Indeed, supporters online are devastated about this news, with a number of fans calling for the club to sign a centre-back in the coming days.

Whether or not this injury leads to a centre-half being signed remains to be seen, but it seems as though there will be pressure from the fanbase for Michael Edwards to act now.

Here’s what the Anfield faithful have been saying on social media…
