Charlie Austin told talkSPORT that Arsenal could ‘really’ finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table this season.

It was suggested to the QPR striker by talkSPORT host and pundit Adrian Durham that Arsenal could miss out on a top-ten finish at the end of the campaign.

At this moment in time, Arsenal’s nightmare is a reality because they are sitting 11th in the Premier League table and, in some cases, they have played a game or two extra than those above them.

Austin admitted that it’s an ‘unbelievable statement’ to suggest that Arsenal can finish so low in the table, but he warned that there is a strong chance of it happening.

“That sounds like an unbelievable statement,” said Austin. “But it could happen. It really could.

“They cannot pin their hopes on the Europa League. They need to pick up points to get up that table.

“Don’t worry about the top-six. The chances that they can finish in the top half is frightening, That can happen.

“I am pretty sure that would be the first time that has happened for Arsenal for many, many, many years. The fear factor of Arsenal fans has gone.”

Well, it seems as though Arsenal may just put their eggs into one basket, and that’s the Europa League basket.

You dread to think what the reaction would be like if the Gunners crash out to Benfica tomorrow.

It would well and truly send the fans into meltdown and just sum up the abject season the club has had this season.
