Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to speculation that Manchester City are interested in signing Jan Vertonghen in the summer transfer window.

Vertonghen is out of contract at Tottenham at the end of the season, and, according to The Telegraph, Premier League rivals City are interested in signing the Belgium international central defender on a free transfer.

It has been reported that City manager Pep Guardiola sees the Belgium international as a ‘short-term solution’ in defence who can also operate as a left-back.

The 33-year-old has been on the books of Spurs since 2012 and has been superb for the North London outfit over the years.

However, Vertonghen has fallen down the pecking order in recent times, and it does not appear that Spurs will keep him at the club beyond the end of the season.

According to WhoScored, the former Ajax star has made 19 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.

Some Tottenham fans have given their take on Vertonghen potentially moving to City on a free transfer this summer.

Below are some of the best comments on Twitter.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks has included Son Heung-min in his BBC Premier League Team of the Week for his performance against Arsenal in the North London derby at the weekend.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport about Son: “Son Heung-min looked something like his former self. The South Korea international suddenly looked impressive again especially on the counter attack.

“His goal was beautifully taken but sadly I fear his return to form might be too late to get Spurs a Champions League spot.”

In another piece of Tottenham news, a report in Sporun Dibi last week claimed that the North London club are interested in signing Zeki Celik from Lille in the summer transfer window.

The report added that Lille are looking for €20 million (£18.19 million) to €25 million (£22.74 million) as transfer fee for the 23-year-old right-back.
