Michael Dawson has praised Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for the ‘unbelievable’ saves he produced during Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat against Southampton, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (09/02/22 at 9:55 pm).
The former centre-back added that he was left ‘wowed’ by the number of chances and clear-cut opportunities the Saints were able to create against Spurs.
Even though the home team took the lead on two occasions, including opening the scoring, it was the away side that were dominating play.
The Saints created a staggering 28 chances, including forcing Lloris to make ten saves during the game.
The signs were there from the off when, eventual winner Che Adams, was denied right at the start from point-blank range.
Dawson made it clear that Spurs didn’t deserve anything from the match, but he did praise Lloris for doing what he does best.
“No complaints whatsoever,” said Dawson. “Really disappointing performance. I think Conte will be disappointed.
“In the first half, they were lucky it was 1-1 and certainly to take the lead. They were fortunate with the own goal.
“Southampton just kept going. If I showed you my list of chances created by Southampton, I have just put ‘wow’ on it because I have never seen a team have so many chances in one game.
“It was remarkable. Clear-cut as well. Hugo Lloris made three or four unbelievable saves to keep them in it. I thought it would change, but in the end, Southampton got what they deserved.”

It could be argued that Lloris has probably been Tottenham’s best player this season because his form hasn’t dropped.
It has been a proper captain’s display from the World Cup winner in between Tottenham’s sticks.
Those in the north London boardroom were wise to sign up the Frenchman on a new deal recently because there isn’t anyone knocking on the door to take his place.
Loanee, Pierluigi Gollini isn’t the answer, nor was Joe Hart, the retired Michel Vorm, or anyone else that has tried to take up that number one role.
