Ryan Babel wrote on Instagram that it’s ‘unbelievable’ that Liverpool defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold, could be left out of England’s Euro 2020 squad.
ESPN have reported that Liverpool’s playmaker on the right is set to be one of seven England players axed from Gareth Southgate’s 33-man squad today.
On Tuesday afternoon, the 26 players headed for the Euros will be submitted to UEFA, with Liverpool’s academy product expected to be heading back to Merseyside.
Alexander-Arnold is competing with Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier for seemingly three right-back spots, as England are pretty blessed in that department.
Nonetheless, upon hearing the news about TAA, ex-Reds player, Babel, simply wrote ‘unbelievable’ when commenting on a Liverpool fan page reacting to that news.
Whilst Jose Enrique added “If he doesn’t get picked…” added with shocked emojis.
In truth, Liverpool fans might not be surprised by the news because they saw it coming.
In March, TAA wasn’t selected by Southgate for England’s World Cup qualifiers, which gave an indication as to what he thinks of him.
It’s a simple scenario really, if England slip-up in any way this summer then the knives will be out for Southgate.
But if the Three Lions, at the very least, make the finals at Euro 2020, then Southgate will feel his potential call to leave TAA at home was justified.
