As per the Daily Record, Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier believes that Fraser Forster could have an opportunity to resurrect his Southampton career.

Le Tissier said Forster was ‘unbelievable’ in the first part of his spell at St Mary’s and lamented the form of fellow Englishmen Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn.

McCarthy made a glaring error against Arsenal last week and Gunn has also had a shaky season.

Against that backdrop, it is not quite clear why Southampton would be willing to offload a stopper who has been in sensational form north of the border during his loan spell at Parkhead.

It is not going to be an easy transfer market to navigate this summer. So given that Southampton have the opportunity to upgrade between the sticks without spending a penny, the least they should be doing is looking into that.

The rearranged European Championship may also be in Forster’s mind, especially with question marks over the head of Jordan Pickford, who was fortunate not to cost Everton an equalising goal with a handling error in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Leicester.

The dilemma for him is whether Champions League football at Parkhead will weigh heavier in Gareth Southgate’s thinking than regular Premier League games.

Southampton look to be moving in the right direction under Ralph Hasenhuttl and they should be trying to make Forster part of that next season too, which is exactly what the Sun report they want to do.
