It was a pretty disappointing night for one Aston Villa star on Wednesday.

Despite winning Man of the Match in England’s win over Belgium last weekend, Gareth Southgate benched Jack Grealish for last night’s 1-0 defeat by Denmark at Wembley – and refused to even sub him on when the Three Lions needed a goal.

Aston Villa and England supporters were outraged by the snub, in light of how well the 24-year-old played against the Belgians.

In contrast, his Villa team-mate John McGinn ran the show as Scotland beat Czech Republic 1-0 at Hampden Park.

McGinn, who joined the West Midlands club in the summer of 2018, was captain on the night due to Andy Robertson’s absence and he certainly thrived with the added responsibility.

It was a typical battling performance from the Aston Villa midfielder – and pundit Tam McManus has described his display as ‘unbelievable’ on Twitter:

The 25-year-old has played every minute for Aston Villa in the Premier League this season as Dean Smith’s side sit second in the table after winning all three of their games – including a 7-2 drubbing of Liverpool before the international break.

He is, quite frankly, class and although some Villa fans will be disappointed for Grealish, perhaps McGinn’s display makes up for that somewhat.
