Well, Everton’s wait to beat Liverpool in the Premier League goes on.

Before this afternoon’s Merseyside derby, the talking point centered around how the Toffees hadn’t beaten their noisy neighbours for a decade.

And that drought will be extended a little longer after Liverpool drew 2-2 in a controversial clash away to Everton today.

Much of the post-match intrigue will centre around whether Jordan Pickford should’ve been sent off for the challenge which led to Reds defender Virgil van Dijk going off injured on 11 minutes – and whether Jordan Henderson’s last-minute goal was really offside.

But there was also a lot of class and quality on display – particularly from Thiago.

The Spain international, a £20 million signing last month, made his full debut for Liverpool after giving the Premier League a taste of his ability in the win at Chelsea a few weeks ago.

And it was a beautiful midfield display from Thiago, who controlled the visitors’ tempo from the middle with consumate ease, clocking 93 touches and setting up two goalscoring chances.

Liverpool only paid £5 million up front to sign the 29-year-old – who won the Champions League with Bayern Munich last season – and here’s how fans of the Premier League champions reacted to his performance today.

It was a nasty end to the game for Thiago, who was the victim of a horror challenge by Richarlison which saw the Everton star sent off, but fortunately the Liverpool man looked to avoid any serious injury, living to fight another day.
