Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Pep Lijnders has shared an update from inside the Reds training camp.

Lijnders was speaking about the team’s recent sessions, and he touched on the all-important fitness training, which included a gruelling running drill.

Lijnders explained what the running drill was, before claiming that James Milner was ‘unbelievable’ during the session.

What’s been said?

Lijnders was speaking about the Reds’ training camp.

“Groups were split and were given timings that were hard to reach during their 6×1,000 runs. This, by the way, was after a proper morning session where we played non-stop our identity game, three teams of eight competing over the whole pitch and some 11v7 variations,” Lijnders said.

“The idea of these was to stimulate all our basic strengths for a stable team. Here we can see how fit our players really are to go, go and go again and still keep quality individually and collectively.

“In the runs, they had to shut up the voice in the head saying ‘it’s impossible’. It shows again that the brain is the most important muscle in the body. The running is just an extra impulse for our never-give-up mentality, nothing more nothing less. Milner going in front of everybody… unbelievable. This was a welcome for Ibou to the real LFC pre-season!”

Age is just a number

James Milner may be 35 years old, but it seems as though age is just a number for the midfielder.

The former Manchester City man has always been one of the fittest players in the Premier League, and it seems as though he’s still maintaining those high standards, even though he’s entering his twilight years.

Milner is the perfect role model for any young player coming through, and while the 35-year-old doesn’t play all that much football for the Reds these days, they’re very lucky to have a man like him in the dressing room leading by example.
