Paul Robinson has waxed-lyrical about his former Leeds United teammate James Milner, who is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The former Premier League goalkeeper praised James Milner for his ‘dedication’ to the game and how his work during his 21-year career has been ‘unbelievable’, as he told BBC Sport.

The 37-year-old started life in England’s top-flight as a fresh-faced teenager, where he was playing for his boyhood club in Leeds United.

But he would head for the exit door upon their relegation in 2004, with rumours now suggesting that the Whites want him back.

But, ironically enough, what could stop those from Yorkshire from signing the departing Liverpool player is relegation back to the Championship on Sunday.

Nonetheless, as Milner comes towards the end of his career, Robinson was there at the start and he had nothing but kind words to say about the midfielder.

“You could see the character that he was from very, very young,” said Robinson.  “His dedication to his craft. His dedication to his profession was always there. Listen, he’s not the most naturally gifted footballer, or the most talented and skilful footballer you will ever see.

“But the way he has worked on his game. You want him as part of your set-up as a manager or if you are a coach. He’s just infectious around the place.

“Milner is a prime example of how to make the very, very best of what you have been given. His work has been unbelievable.”

MILNER IS A PREMIER LEAGUE LEGEND

Whatever will be Milner’s next destination, it will more than likely be the £60k-a-week star’s (Spotrac) last in football.

It would be fitting for him to join Leeds and end his career where it all started, at the home of his boyhood club.

But when he does eventually hang up his boots, he will retire as a Premier League legend, without a doubt.
