Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles is a target for Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab.

According to TEAMtalk, Al-Shabab want to sign Jamaal Lascelles with the transfer window in Saudi Arabia not closing until September 7.

However, according to the same outlet, the centre-back is currently happy at Newcastle.

Lascelles has barely played for the Magpies this season, featuring in just one of their four Premier League fixtures so far.

He was not a regular under Eddie Howe last term either, making just two starts in the top flight.

Newcastle should not sell Jamaal Lascelles

While Lascelles may not be a key player for Howe, Newcastle would still be wise to keep hold of him, at least until January.

With the transfer window in England now closed, the Tyneside club would not be able to replace their captain until the new year and have already lost Sven Botman to an injury, quickly showing the importance of squad depth.

Despite barely featuring of late, the 29-year-old, who has been described as an “unbelievable” skipper by his manager, also seems to be content at St James’ Park for now, so there does not really appear to be a need to sell him.

Having brought in a centre-half of Botman’s quality and being able to add to him following their takeover, the chances are that Newcastle will move Lascelles on eventually. And from his perspective, he will not want to be a bench player forever.

However, now is not a good time for the Premier League outfit to sell the former Nottingham Forest man.
