Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has praised goalkeeper Guglielm Vicario for his incredible commitment to training.

Tottenham needed a big summer window after Antonio Conte’s exit.

Spurs certainly delivered with their summer signings making massive impact this season.

Defender Micky van de Ven is one of those to impress since arriving from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

Behind him is goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who was a somewhat surprising choice to replace Hugo Lloris.

Vicario impressed with Empoli in Italy, but the step up to playing as Tottenham’s first-choice stopper in the Premier League was a huge one.

Vicario has proved a few people wrong though and has arguably been the finest goalkeeper in the Premier League this season.

The Italian has earned major praise this season and defender Van de Ven has now joined in.

Speaking to Optus Sport, Van de Ven has praised Vicario as a ‘top-class’ goalkeeper who has been simply ‘unbelievable’ this season.

Van de Ven noted that Vicario is always working to improve his game, spotting him in the gym both before and after training.

The Spurs defender added that it’s great to have Vicario in goal as, even when opponents get through on goal, they still have to beat Vicario – and that is ‘not easy’.

“A top-class keeper,” said Van de Ven. “I think [that’s] what he showed also to the world right now and he’s a hard-working player. Every day in the gym, after training, before training, he’s working to make the best out of his career and as a person he’s also a top guy. You can speak with him about everything, on the pitch, off the pitch, and yeah, what he’s shown on the pitch, unbelievable performance and it’s also really nice that sometimes, when and attack is coming through, we know Vic is in the goal so it’s not easy for them to score a goal,” he added.

Van de Ven is not the first Spurs player to point out Vicario’s work ethic.

Just two weeks ago, Destiny Udogie agreed with Dejan Kulusevski’s suggestion that Vicario needs to take some days off.

Vicario simply suggested that he loves being at the training ground because the facilities are so good, but it sounds like he is really putting in the extra hours.

That is a great mentality to have and Tottenham fans will certainly love what they have seen from Vicario in his first season at the club.
