Michael Owen has lauded the ‘unbelievable’ consistency of Mohamed Salah after he scored and helped Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday.
The former England striker says Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will never get another player like the 31-year-old again – the build-up to today’s game has been dominated by the player linked with a transfer to Saudi Arabia.
But, for Owen, Mohamed Salah is ‘one of the world’s best’ and he is just a ‘quite phenomenal’ player, as he told Premier League Productions (03/09/23 at 4:00 pm).
That’s two goals and two assists after four Premier League games for Salah, during these early stages, as he has picked up from where he left off last season.
Whether the Egypt international leaves today, next year, in a few years or if he retires at Anfield, he will forever be a club legend and many would put him into the club’s all-time XI.
That’s some going for a player who is still performing at the top of his game and, with Harry Kane now in Bayern Munich, Salah is perhaps the realistic player to challenge the dominant Erling Haaland in the top-scorer charts.

“I mean, his consistency is unbelievable,” said Owen. “He is one of the world’s best. In terms of his output and goals, the numbers he continues to post year after year, it’s quite phenomenal.
“Where do you find somebody that plays every single game, never ever gets injured, is a model pro and scores all the time? Big goals. He has been there to win all the biggest trophies.
“I get it, I hear it. If somebody is going to pay stupid money, then every single person on his planet has a price. But you won’t be able to get another Mo Salah.”

188 Liverpool goals and counting…
That’s 309 games in all competitions for Salah, closing in on 200, not forgetting his 81 assists, including the piercing through ball for Darwin Nunez’s winner at St James’ Park last week.
If Salah stays on at Liverpool for a few more years, then there is no reason why he can’t hit the 300 mark, one thing is for sure, he will get his double century this season.
It will put him alongside a pantheon of greats on Merseyside from Kenny Dalglish to Ian Rush.
