It was a tale of two goalkeepers – and two Davids – when Brighton drew with Cardiff.

Cardiff City caretaker boss Scott Young has hailed goalkeeper David Marshall as ‘unbelievable’ after his performance at Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

The Scotland stopper starred for the Bluebirds as they left the Amex Stadium with a point after a game that saw Brighton utterly dominate.

Marshall was a shining light during Cardiff’s Premier League campaign last season, despite relegation, and appears to be producing the same again this time around.

Indeed, as Opta stats show, Marshall matched the record tally of eight saves in a single game for the Championship season to earn them a point at Brighton – and Young was understandably delighted with his display.

“We see David Marshall do this day in, day out in training,” he told reporters after the 1-1 draw.

“He is unbelievable at this level and would be among the top five or six in the top flight.”

It was a rather different night for opposite number David Stockdale, however, who erred for Cardiff’s only goal of the game.

Indeed, a high ball forward from Fabio saw Stockdale rush off his line to try and clear, allowing Kenwyne Jones to instead head into an empty net.

After the encounter, he apologised for his ‘bad decision.’

Seagulls boss Sami Hyypia said: “This was our best performance of the season and that is why it is so frustrating.”
