Manchester City are on the verge of their first major player sale in over 12 months with Ferran Torres close to a £50m move to FC Barcelona.
According to the Athletic, the La Liga side have reached an agreement with City for the 21-year-old Spaniard. Torres has not featured much for Pep Guardiola’s side this season due to a foot injury.
Yet despite this, Barcelona have now broken the bank to sign the forward ahead of the January transfer window. Torres will become the first signing under new manager Xavi Hernandez, who aims to bring the Catalan giants back to their former best.
Indeed, it is an astonishing piece of business from City, who only signed Torres last summer for a reported transfer fee of £20m. Now, the Premier League giants stand to make a hefty profit for the Spanish international.
Moreover, the transfer could open the door for City to sign a striker in 2022. Guardiola’s side have done well so far without a natural centre-forward. However, this could well change as we head into the New Year.
Indeed, a striker might be what’s needed for Guardiola to finally bring a UEFA Champions League title to the blue side of Manchester. Yet on social media, some fans aren’t pleased with Torres’ move to Barcelona.
City fans rage as Barcelona land Torres

Some supporters are mad that the club are letting an exciting talent in Torres leave, with the forward only being at the club for over a year and impressing whenever given the chance to shine.
Here’s what some City fans had to say on Twitter about Barcelona agreeing a £40m deal for Torres…
