Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Kevin De Bruyne has been chatting about Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Belgian was tasked with picking his dream five-a-side team, and understandably, he managed to find a spot for van Dijk.

After choosing his side, Ferdinand asked De Bruyne whether or not he thought van Dijk was the best defender in the world.

What’s De Bruyne said about van Dijk?

The midfielder was full of praise for the Liverpool star.

“I think he is up there. I know Virgil a little bit personally, he was unbelievable before his injury and then obviously he had his ACL which is bad, but he’s come back to a really high level. I think he’s probably in the top three in the world alongside Ruben and then there’s some other players,” De Bruyne said.

Best in the world

De Bruyne may sat that van Dijk is one of his top three centre-backs in world football, but interestingly, he was the only defender in his dream 5-a-side team.

In our view, when van Dijk is at his best, there’s not a player on the planet who can get near him.

He’s one of the best passers of the ball on the planet, while he’s also incredibly physically imposing and he can read a game unlike anybody else.

The fact that he’s suffered an ACL injury and not missed a beat is a testament to his talent and dedication.

Van Dijk is truly a once in a generation centre-back.
