Jermain Defoe has stated that Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe’s attention to detail in training is ‘unbelievable’, as he told Sky Sports.

The Rangers striker worked under the stewardship of Howe when he was Bournemouth boss and saw first-hand what he is like when he is getting his hands dirty.

Howe produced magical moments during his time at the South Coast club, including taking them on the brink of going bust in England’s lower leagues to the promised land.

It was one of the most remarkable jobs a manager has done at a football club during these past 20 years and it perhaps goes under-appreciated because a lot of people only focus on that one relegation he suffered right at the end.

Nonetheless, Howe has already faced many tough, tough challenges during his career and this current Newcastle job is sitting near the top of the tree when it comes to the level of difficulty.

Newcastle fans will be hoping he can become their saviour this season, as Defoe shared what the man is like in training.

“I think as a coach, he is very much a forward-thinking coach,” said Defoe. “He does a lot of work with the players on the training pitch.

“His attention to detail is unbelievable. He always wants to improve players, but that’s the problem they have got, they concede too many goals.”

It’s only one win to his name, so far, for Howe and the Newcastle job is proving to be a lot tougher than he would have first imagined.

The manager bounce didn’t happen and they are still sitting in the relegation zone struggling to get out of their morale-sapping situation.

With the January transfer window looming, it’s obvious the direction the club are going to go down next month.

There’s only so much Howe can do on the training pitch because if players are unable to head a ball when it’s put into the danger area, then it’s pretty clear where the big problems lie.
