Anthony Gordon admits Frank Lampard has ‘surprised’ him with his ‘unbelievable’ tactical knowledge following replacing Rafa Benitez as the Everton manager, via quotes by The Sun.
Farhad Moshiri made Lampard his sixth permanent head coach appointment since buying the Toffees in 2016 after sacking Benitez. The Goodison Park natives had only won five of their 19 Premier League fixtures under the Spaniard, including one of their final 13 games.
Lampard will oversee his third top-flight match in charge on Saturday when the Blues travel down to face Southampton. The 43-year-old took his first win at the helm last time out as the Merseyside natives beat Leeds 3-0. They lost his first match in charge 3-1 at Newcastle.

Gordon assisted Michael Keane to double Everton’s lead over Leeds before scoring himself to secure Lampard’s maiden win in charge. The winger enjoyed a confident game against the Whites with chances to score throughout, plus a role in Seamus Coleman’s early strike.
He now has three goals and two assists after 19 Premier League outings so far this season, starting 11. The England U21 dynamo has also assisted once in the Blues’ FA Cup efforts.
Gordon admits ‘genius’ Lampard has ‘surprised’ him as Everton boss
Lampard has liked what Gordon has produced since replacing Benitez as Everton’s boss in January. He has started the Toffees product in each fixture across all competitions at the helm so far. So, Gordon will expect to start when Everton visit Southampton on Saturday.
Gordon has also taken to Lampard and admits the new Everton boss talks to him daily to express his support. While the former Chelsea head coach’s knowledge of the game has also caught Gordon by surprise and feels he warrants more respect than he has earned.
“I feel the trust he has got in me, he tells me daily,” Gordon said. “He is an unbelievable manager and he has surprised me, really, with how good he is tactically.

“There is a thing that tactics come from foreign managers and them being geniuses. But we need to start giving recognition to the young English managers, such as the gaffer. He is a tactical genius and I am thriving off that.
“I’m learning from him every day, stuff I hadn’t heard before. It was those little details, for us to be faster and more aggressive. He wanted to push us higher up the pitch and while it might not seem a lot, those little details go a really long way in a game like this.”
