Gary Neville has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports, that he believes Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the top four, but he doesn’t think they can win the Premier League.

With the league looking so open currently, Tottenham’s expectations have risen after a bright start.

Spurs have looked one of the most dangerous attacking threats over the early weeks of the campaign and currently sit in fifth place in the table.

After their win against Burnley last night, Spurs are now only two points away from top spot.

But Neville doesn’t think that Tottenham will be able to finish on the top of the pile by the end of the season.

“I don’t think they can win the league, I really don’t,” he said. “But because Mourinho is there there will be an element of them thinking they can do the unthinkable. They have got some unbelievable attacking players and it is a strange season.

“But I don’t think they can win the league just because they haven’t done before and that game could have swung either way.

“To finish third would be unbelievable. I never thought they would be in that position, I didn’t have Tottenham in the top four at the start of the season.”

While Neville had played down Tottenham’s chances of winning the league, there is a feeling that confidence in growing in Mourinho’s squad.

Harry Kane spoke after Tottenham’s game last night about his belief the side could do ‘something special’ this season, which suggests that in camp they retain a belief that they could deliver some silverware.

Tottenham’s next two league games are against Brighton & Hove Albion and West Bromwich Albion, and if they are able to collect maximum points, then talk about them potentially winning the league will only grow louder.
