Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has raved about Chelsea defender Thiago Silva on Sky Sports.

Martinelli, who has established himself as an important player for Arsenal, and 38-year-old Chelsea central defender Silva play for the Brazil national football team.

Both the forward and the defender are part of the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Brazil are one of the favourites to win the tournament.

And Arsenal forward Martinelli has spoken highly of his Brazilian teammate, whom he played against earlier this month.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli on Chelsea’s Thiago Silva

Martinelli said about Silva: “Yes, of course (he is one of the toughest defenders I have played against). He is one of the best defenders in the world as well.

“He is 38, and you see him playing now, it’s unbelievable. We played against him last week, and you could see his quality, his composure. He is so good, a very good guy off the pitch as well.”

Important players

In our view, Arsenal forward Gabriel Martineli and Chelsea defender Thiago Silva are two of the best players in the Premier League.

Martinelli is a young and dynamic player who has made Arsenal so much potent and threatening in attack.

The Gunners are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment, and one of the main reasons for that is the form of Martinelli.

Silva is almost 40 now, but the £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain defender is going as strong as ever and remains a key figure for Chelsea and for Brazil.
