Dele Alli has hailed Tottenham fans as ‘unbelievable’ on his Instagram after they progressed through to the semi-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Antonio Conte’s side beat West Ham 2-1 to knockout their London rivals out of the competition, with Alli coming on as a second-half substitute.

After his Man of the Match display from the weekend against Liverpool, Alli was dropped to the bench yesterday as Conte made several changes to his XI.

In terms of performances, it didn’t make too much of a difference because Spurs still produced the goods in a pretty feisty and aggressive-natured London derby.

It’s now a small matter of facing Chelsea in the last four and the first-leg tie at Stamford Bridge, although there have been calls for the two-legged affair to be reduced to just the one knockout game.

Nonetheless, this is what Dele Alli posted on Instagram after Tottenham’s win last night:

“Into the semis, we go,” Alli wrote. “The home fans were unbelievable tonight. Hope you all have a great Christmas.”

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Alli during these coming weeks and whether he heads for the north London exit door.

Many have felt, including Tottenham fans, that his career at the club was over and there were suggestions that Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici were going to allow him to leave, as reported by The Athletic.

Whilst his recent performances don’t turn the tables, it has probably invited key figures to the table again to discuss what might happen to him next month.

Simply put, if he continues in his current ways, then there is no reason why Spurs should sell him.

But the problem he faces is that he is only a few poor performances away from being shown the exit door once more, so it’s probably best they just sell him.
