Paul Merson has claimed that ‘absolutely nobody’ in the world would want to sign Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, because of his wages and current situation, as he told Sky Sports.

The former Highbury player stated that this isn’t a problem for Aubameyang because he is on an ‘unbelievable contract’ at Arsenal.

Ever since the Gabon forward put pen-to-paper on a new deal in north London, he has looked the shadow of the player that fired them to the FA Cup in Mikel Arteta’s first season in charge.

Now, Aubameyang is seemingly creating more off-the-field moments than he is game-changing ones on it.

Over the weekend, Arteta left his captain out of Arsenal’s home tie against Southampton for a ‘disciplinary breach’, as he told Sky Sports.

This isn’t the first time that Arteta has had to act in such a manner towards the man wearing Arsenal’s armband.

And Merson warned that the club are going to struggle to part ways with the player given his current situation.

“This is not going to be a problem for Aubameyang because he’s got an unbelievable contract at the club,” said Merson.

“However, it’s a major problem for Arsenal. Who’s going to take him on those wages? Absolutely nobody in the whole wide world.

“And there’s his age too. If he was 27, they’d be queuing up around the corner for him, but not now at the age of 32.

“It’s a big problem for Arsenal and Arteta.”

Arsenal face-off against West Ham United on Wednesday night in the Premier League and it will be interesting if Aubameyang returns to the matchday squad.

What will also be interesting is, if he does return, whether or not he is still the club captain.

At the end of the day, it would be quite embarrassing if he still is because he hasn’t exactly been setting an example to what is a young Arsenal team.

Plus, Arteta would be sending out mixed messages if he bans his captain, for a second time this year for discipline issues but then still allows him to lead the team out.
