Arsenal head into this new season with quite a nicely balanced squad.

Indeed, while the Gunners have had a number of defined star players over the years from Thierry Henry to Cesc Fabregas to Robin van Persie, but right now, it’s hard to name who Arsenal’s best player is.

Martin Odegaard is the captain, Gabriel Jesus is the marquee signing of the summer, while Bukayo Saka is the Gunners’ brightest young talent and current Player of the Year.

Saka may have won the Gunner of the Year award last term, but Kevin Campbell believes that his crown will be taken by a new player this year – William Saliba.

Indeed, on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Campbell backed Saliba to win the club’s Player of the Year award.

What’s been said?

Campbell named Saliba as a potential winner of this award.

“Do you know what guys, I’m going to go for Saliba. I see a different defence with him and Gabriel in it. I know Ben White did a fantastic job next season, I can’t deny that, but I think with these two at the back, at times we may play a three. This guy, van Dijk with his experience is a Rolls Royce, but this guy has to be a top of the range Bentley hasn’t he? He’s been unbelievable,” Campbell said.

Will he even start?

Campbell thinks that Saliba may well be Arsenal’s best player next season, but we don’t even know if he’ll be starting yet.

He’s never played a competitive game for Arsenal, and it won’t be easy to displace either Gabriel Magalhaes or Ben White in that backline this season.

Saliba has a real uphill task on his hands if he wants to break into this XI, never mind winning Player of the Year.

However, if he’s as good as Campbell thinks he is, it may not be long before the Frenchman is the first name on Mikel Arteta’s teamsheet.
