Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is more than just a goalscorer.
The Brazilian stopper helped Jurgen Klopp’s outfit to a 3-1 victory over Norwich City at Anfield this afternoon.
The hosts had to come from behind with second-half goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, who bagged his first Liverpool goal following a £49 million transfer from Porto.
Arguably the biggest goal was the Salah strike which sent the hosts 2-1 ahead – and it was the big goalkeeper who assisted it.
Alisson executed a sublimely-accurate long ball which took the Canaries’ defence out of the game, before Salah tucked away his 150th goal for Liverpool.
Here’s what Jonathan Woodgate said about the strike.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “The ball from Alisson was unbelievable – it took ten men out of the game. Salah took it in his stride. He jinked one way then jinked the other and rolled it into the net.”
Alisson, a £66 million signing in 2018 [BBC Sport], is not only a brilliant goalkeeper but clearly a very talented footballer in general.
Remember, the former Roma stalwart headed home a last-second winner away to West Bromwich Albion last season to help Liverpool clinch Champions League qualification in the end.
So for him to channel his inner Steven Gerrard and find Salah in the raking fashion he did, well it isn’t entirely surprising.
The headlines will centre around Salah’s 150th goal in a Red shirt but, really, Alisson deserves a lot of the credit for making it, too.
