According to El Nacional, one player on Newcastle United’s transfer shortlist is Gareth Bale.

The Magpies aren’t 100 per cent sold on the idea of signing Bale due to his patchy form, but it seems as though this could be a possibility for the Magies.

The Welsh wizard is undoubtedly one of the best players of his generation. He’s a two-time PFA Player of the Year winner and at one point he was the most expensive player in the history of the game.

Bale still has what it takes to be a star. After all, he did have the best minutes per goal ratio in the Premier League last season, despite the fact his spell with Tottenham was largely seen as a failure.

The winger is a brilliant footballer, and one man who rates him incredibly highly is Alan Shearer.

What’s been said?

Shearer was speaking about Bale on the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast before Euro 2020 started.

“We’ve seen the best of Gareth Bale. His best was unbelievable and what a career he had, and what a decision he made when he went to Real Madrid, it all worked out well for him there in terms of winning trophies,” Shearer said.

“He was a great talent, he scored some great goals and he was a huge part of what Wales did in the last tournament, but I don’t think they have enough in their squad to get it going the way they did a few years ago.”

Would be a star

Bale could be an absolute star at Newcastle if he joined the Magpies.

Think about it, if this squad was fully built around his talents there’s no reason why he can’t still be one of the best players in this country.

Let’s face it, Bale isn’t the player he once was. His fitness has let him down over the years and he’s not played consistent football for a long time.

However, as his performances with Spurs and Wales have shown, when he’s up for it, he’s still an unbelievable player and if Newcastle promise to make him their star man, he could well relish playing in front of over 50,000 Geordies who would undoubtedly adore him.
