Roberto Firmino has been getting his flowers in abundance this week following his latest heroics for Liverpool.
The Brazil international came off the bench to help Liverpool to a 2-0 victory away to Arsenal in midweek.
Firmino scored the Reds’ second and killer goal with an exceptional deft touch to guide the ball past Aaron Ramsdale at the near post.
In doing so, the former Hoffenheim forward scored his ninth goal of the season across all competitions.
However, his goal return doesn’t tell the full story of Firmino, whose creativity and link-up play has provided the foundations for the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to dazzle down the years.
Shrewsbury Town striker Ryan Bowman has been singing Firmino’s praises, claiming that despite the South American being a much better player, he still attempts to mould his game on that of the Liverpool attacker.
He told The Shropshire Star: “For me Firmino is the biggest one for that, his all-round game is unbelievable and he doesn’t score as many goals as Mane and Salah.
“But the reason Mane and Salah score a lot of goals is because of what Firmino’s job is. Obviously I’m not comparing myself anywhere near to him, but that’s what I look up to.”
Everyone talks about Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah being out of contract in 2023.
However, the same applies to Firmino but despite Liverpool having Diogo Jota as a long-term replacement, Wednesday at the Emirates was a massive reminder that he can still be a massive player for the Reds and surely Jurgen Klopp will want to keep him.
