Stuart McKinstry has played his first game in Leeds United colours this pre-season – despite his arrival not being acknowledged by the club.

The teenage Scottish winger featured for United’s Under-18 side on Sunday as they lost 3-2 to Yorkshire Ammers.

The Scottish Sun reported way back in February that the 16-year-old Motherwell product would be joining Leeds this month.

But with no official announcement from the Whites, there was an element of mystery about McKinstry’s deal.

However, the youngster, who was named on the bench as a fusion of senior and academy Leeds stars beat Guiseley earlier this month, is definitely at Thorp Arch and here’s how he reacted to Sunday’s defeat.

McKinstry previously wrote on Twitter that it was a ‘class experience’ to be involved in the Guiseley win and added there was ‘hopefully more to come’, but he was not included in the 5-1 win at Tadcaster Albion last week.

Still, he’s only 16 and his short-term goal in West Yorkshire should be to impress Under-23 boss Carlos Corberan.

Long term he will obviously want to make his senior Leeds debut, but that’s a while off yet and the best route to the first team is through Corberan’s side.
