Unai Emery has teased that Aston Villa could make moves in the January transfer window as the Spanish manager claimed a win against Manchester United in his first game back in the Premier League.
Speaking to Diario AS, the former Villarreal boss hinted that January transfers could be on the agenda if Emery believes that an area in the squad can be strengthened in the market, with Villa impressing in the Spaniard’s first fixture back in England.
Villa secured a 3-1 win against Erik Ten Hag’s side at home as Emery laid out his tactical blueprint in his first game for the Villians, with Leon Bailey partnering Ollie Watkins in the attack with Jacob Ramsey and Emi Buendia supporting the two forwards.
Indeed, it was an interesting approach from Emery that bore fruit for Villa at the first possible moment. Yet despite the impressive result, dipping into the market will likely happen for the Premier League side given with what Emery has to work with between now and the summer.

Villa have been linked with a plethora of players since Emery’s arrival, with the Spanish coach likely to move for names who have previously worked under his style of play. And according to the manager himself, there could be a chance in January to bring in new signings to improve the squad.
Emery said: “We have a month and a half before the transfer window. For now, we are focusing on the players we already have, trying to improve their individual performances, and give them the confidence to improve. And then I think we will improve with the transfer market, but first, we have to believe in our players.”
Manchester United win will give Aston Villa confidence in trusting Emery

Emery’s start to life as Villa boss could not have gone more perfectly, with the former Arsenal manager beating United at home in front of a crowd that seem sold on the latest Villa Park project. And for the board, they will now be confident in trusting the Spaniard to buy well in January.
After all, Villa can do with some new players in the market regardless of how much Emery improves them between now and January. And with this win today, the Villians board will now be sold on ensuring the former Villarreal coach can sign a top player to upgrade the squad for the second half of the season.
