Chris Sutton has said on BBC Radio 5 Live that former Arsenal manager Unai Emery could decide to move to St. James’ Park and take the Newcastle United managerial job.
What’s the story?
Emery is now in charge of Villarreal, but the former Arsenal manager has been strongly linked with Newcastle.
The Times have reported that the Spaniard is a leading contender for the Newcastle managerial role.
The Northern Echo have claimed that the 49-year-old is ready to move to St. James’ Park.
Chris Sutton’s verdict
Former Chelsea and Norwich City striker Sutton has said that Emery could leave Villarreal and join Newcastle.
Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live about Emery to Newcastle: “It’s not impossible. I can’t speak for Unai Emery, but many managers would look at this situation as managers use the word project.
“The fact of the matter is that Newcastle United, with the spending power which they have, they could possibly challenge for a Premier League title within the next few seasons, and that is the gamble which somebody like Unai Emery may actually think is worth taking.
“A manager who was laughed at at Arsenal may think what an opportunity this is, a point to prove.”

Unai Emery would be great for Newcastle
Emery knows the Premier League and was in charge of Arsenal not so long ago.
The 49-year-old was often ridiculed when he was at Arsenal.
But, we should not forget that the Spaniard guided the Gunners to the UEFA Europa League final in 2018-19.

Emery is a serial winner who can also build strong teams.
The Spaniard won the UEFA Europa League thrice in a row with Sevilla and won the competition again with Villarreal last season.
Emery also won the Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.
In our view, Emery would be a brilliant managerial appointment for Newcastle, of course, they decide to sack Steve Bruce.
