Quite a lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans might have forgotten all about Juan Foyth.
After all, Spurs loaned the Argentina international to Villarreal last summer and being a defensive player, it’s a lot harder for him to make headline overseas than it would be if he was, say, a striker.
Foyth is due back in North London before next season and Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho might have a former Arsenal man to thank if he fancies the youngster a little more.
The 23-year-old, who cost the Lilywhites £8 million under Mauricio Pochettino, left the club as a centre-back but he’s going to return a much more rounded and versatile footballer.
That’s because ex-Gunners boss Unai Emery has moulded Foyth into something of a utility man this season.
He has been operating in a right-back role as of late after already impressing in a big way as a holding midfielder earlier in the campaign.
As a centre-back, Foyth didn’t have much future at Tottenham and repeated errors – and penalty concessions – illustrate as much. In short, Mourinho just didn’t rate him.
But as things stand, he has many more strings to his bow as a player now and it’ll be fascinating to see if the Portuguese boss wants him back for the long term this summer.
Spurs fans won’t want to give a former Arsenal man credit for anything – especially not today – but Emery is doing wonders for the young lad.
