It’s definitely safe to say that Unai Emery has landed on his feet since losing his job at Arsenal.

The Gunners fired Emery midway through the 2019-20 campaign after results nosedived in a serious way.

Since then, the Spaniard, who only lasted 18 months at Arsenal, has been appointed at Villarreal back in his homeland and they’re sitting fourth in the Primera Liga as of now, two points behind third-placed Barcelona.

As things stand, Emery is going to get Villarreal into the Champions League, something he narrowly failed at in North London.

At the time of his dismissal, a lot of the Emirates Stadium faithful had turned against the former Paris Saint-Germain coach, but the 49-year-old holds no malice toward the supporters, issuing them a ‘thank you’ message during an interview with Football London.

He said: “The [Arsenal] supporters supported me in that moment and the second year was more difficult but I understand totally. My message is thank you.”

Emery got Arsenal to a Europa League final in his first season, where they lost to Chelsea in Baku.

In the same campaign, they finished outside the top four by a point.
